Kashaya Vasti
Kashaya Vasti is a specialized Ayurvedic therapy and one of the types of Vasti treatments. In Ayurveda, Vasti refers to therapies where medicated substances are administered through the rectum, urethra, or vagina to treat disorders of the reproductive system, abdomen, and musculoskeletal system. Modern practice often uses a thin catheter to deliver these medicines safely and effectively.
Kashaya Vasti uses a medicated herbal decoction (Kashaya), which is slightly astringent or bitter in taste. The treatment is designed to restore balance in the body, targeting conditions caused by imbalances in natural body elements such as dryness, tension, or excessive moisture.
The therapy is performed on an empty stomach, and patients typically undergo Sneha Vasti (oil-based enema) beforehand, which involves the use of medicated oils, ghee, or honey. Pre-treatment massage (Snehan) and steam therapy (Swedan) help relax the body and prepare it for the procedure. The anus and catheter are lubricated to ensure a smooth and comfortable administration of the decoction. The type of herbal decoction and duration of therapy are determined individually by the physician.
