Pizhichil
Pizhichil is a classical Ayurvedic therapy that involves the continuous pouring of warm, medicated herbal oils over the body, combined with gentle rhythmic massage. Pizhichil was once reserved for royalty due to its deeply rejuvenating and luxurious nature. It is also referred to as Sarvangadhara, Thaila Dhara, or Kaya Seka.
This therapy is an integral part of Panchakarma procedures and combines the benefits of oleation (Snehan) and sudation (Swedan). Warm herbal oils are squeezed from a cloth and allowed to flow uniformly over the body while therapists perform synchronized massage techniques. The combined effect of oil and heat helps eliminate metabolic toxins (Ama), improve circulation, nourish tissues, and promote overall vitality.
Classical Ayurvedic texts such as the Ashtanga Hridaya describe oil-based therapies as highly effective in pacifying aggravated Vata disorders and strengthening the neuromuscular system.
Pizhichil is often recommended for neurological disorders, paralysis, arthritis, chronic pain conditions, stress-related disorders, and general body weakness.
