Urovasti
Urovasti is an Ayurvedic therapy designed to treat imbalances and disorders affecting the chest region. The term Urovasti comes from two Sanskrit words: “Uro” meaning chest, and “Vasti” meaning to retain or contain.
This treatment involves a specialized oil-pooling technique that focuses on conditions related to the lungs, heart, and respiratory system. During the therapy, a small compartment made from black gram flour and water is created over the chest. Warm, medicated oil is then poured into this compartment and retained for a specific duration. Because this therapy targets the heart, it is also referred to as Hridvasti, where “Hrid” translates to heart.
The oil used in Urovasti is carefully maintained at a warm temperature throughout the session to maximize its therapeutic effects.
The timing of the treatment is customized according to the patient’s dominant bodily condition:
- For individuals with congestion or heaviness, therapy is performed in the morning.
- For those with inflammatory tendencies, it is done in the afternoon.
- For individuals with dryness or tension-related issues, the session is scheduled in the evening.
Patients are advised to come on an empty stomach to ensure comfort while lying on their back during the procedure.
