Kativasti
Kativasti is a specialized Ayurvedic therapy designed to treat and rejuvenate the lower back or lumbar region. The term Kativasti comes from Kati, meaning waist or lower back, and Vasti, meaning to retain or hold. This therapy involves the application of warm herbal decoctions or medicated oils to the lumbosacral area and is usually performed over a duration of about 30 minutes.
During the procedure, a ring-shaped mold made of black gram flour or whole wheat flour dough is carefully placed on the lower back. The dough is sealed using lukewarm water to create a confinement for the oil or herbal decoction. Medicated oil or herbal decoction, selected according to the patient’s constitution and needs, is then poured into this mold. The warm oil remains in the mold, allowing its therapeutic properties to gradually penetrate the muscles, tissues, and nerves in the lumbar region.
This treatment nourishes, strengthens, and heals the lower back, providing relief from stiffness, pain, and inflammation while improving mobility and overall back health
